Hello on this rainy day.
I have completely forgotten about the blog posts, and I'm so sorry about that. I blame this crazy senior year.
I have been trying to get here for 5 hours a week, but that just hasn't really been happening. But I'm still trying to get 5 hours.
Since the semester began I have been working on the letters from Hines and Lee. I have everything transcribed except one letter, which has been really difficult to decipher. I've created a spreadsheet and organized the scans and transcriptions.
I'm hoping to get in for an hour on Friday to finish up that project, and then I'll be ready for the next project.

Wednesday
I finished editing the Wallulahs today!
The only problem I had was with the 1972 Wallulah, and the problem is that I can't find it. So I don't really know what to do about that one.
So the Wallulah project is almost done. The ABBYY software still isn't working very well, but I will keep working on that when I get back in the first week of school.

Friday
The moment we've all (and when I say "all" I mean, probably like, Sara and I) been waiting for:
All of the Wallulahs have been scanned. All of them.
And I wish I could say it was all done. But alas, in the archiving world, the work seems to never be done. Which is good for us, amiright? I need to finish editing 4-5 of the Wallulahs. And then I should probably recheck everything. But the main part of the work is done!
Next week will be my last week for the summer. I'm working from 8am to 11 or 12 each day. My plan is to get through editing at least one Wallulah a day, but it will probably be more. So by the end of the week the project should be entirely done.

Their Stories
As monotonous as scanning and editing the Wallulahs can be, I actually really enjoy it. Right now I'm editing the Wallulahs from the 1970s. The pictures and the hair and the quips have literally made me laugh out loud. It seems like such a cool time to be at Willamette, to be in college. My dad graduated from UCSB around this time. After hearing all of his stories, and seeing all of these people and their lives here at Willamette in the pages of the Wallulah, I've become so nostalgic for this time and this life.
Full disclosure: I totally check out the guys in these yearbooks. A lot of them are so cute or look like they would have been really fun guys to know. I like to wonder what they did at Willamette or who they dated or what parties they went to or where they are now.
Today, in one of the pages of the 1977 Wallulah, a picture caught my attention. It was the graduation photo of a senior. This guy was super cute, so I stopped editing to stare at him for a second. I looked over at his name, and realized that it was someone I knew. He was a family friend, and he died a year and a half ago.
For the majority of the archival documents and images I work with, the people who are associated with it have died. Most of the documents and the images are from far, far in the past. But with the Wallulahs, I just keep moving forward in time. And because I'm from this area, I guess I'm bound to recognize a few faces or names. Now, going through the 1970s, the people in the pictures are my parents age. These are my friends' parents. These are my parents' friends. And some of them have died.
I look at pictures of people living their college lives all day, but I don't really know their stories. So when I stumbled across someone I do know, the moment hit me in a different way. I think because in his graduation photo, he didn't know his future--his four kids, his wife, his career as a doctor, his cancer--but he looked proud and happy and hopeful. And now that image and that moment are forever captured and archived and remembered.

Wilbur Collection
I finished the uploading the Wilbur Collection today! All the documents are edited and online. Sara told me that the next step will be a big metadata cleanup, but I'm not really sure how to go about doing that. But until all that happens, at least the collection is online.
Now I can focus all my attention on the Wallulahs. I just finished editing the 1964 Wallulah and will scan the 1970 Wallulah tomorrow. My goal is to scan two Wallulahs a day and probably two or three wallulahs a week for the rest of the summer.
Looking ahead:
I will be gone Monday, July 28-Wednesday, July 30.
I'll be here the following week full time.
From Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15 I'm hoping to only work until 11am each day.
The week after that I will be here full time.
And then I start classes again on Tuesday, August 26.

Thursday
I'm leaving for the weekend now so here is a quick update on the week:
Wallulahs:
Still truckin' on the yearbooks. ABBYY software is still weird on the computers.
Wilbur letters:
I'll probably have all the folders online next week. Sara said we will probably do a big metadata cleanup in the fall.
Sackett photos:
I talked to Shanel today about the best way to mount the photos. She sent me to Chris to talk about ordering the right kind of foam board and enough of it. Chris said he will place a small order and we can try it and see if it works and we can order more if we need to we can order more!

Friday
Packwood slides:
I was not able to finish scanning the Packwood slides, but I'll definitely have them done on Monday.
Wilbur:
Everything through Folder 4 should be online and edited.
Wallulahs:
I scanned 1968 today and was able to edit most of 1961.
Sackett Photos:
I just looked at the prints of the Sackett photos and they are beautiful! I'm so excited. I'll need to trim the white off almost all of them but then I will put them up here on Monday. I'm sure everyone knows how obsessed I was those the photos before, but now seeing them printed has made me even more obsessed. They will look amazing once I get them up.

Monday
I spent today working on the Wilbur letters. The first two folders of letters are online. I think I will keep editing as we decide how we want names and geography standardized. I'm uploading the third folder as this is being written, and will start editing those probably tomorrow as it is a large batch of letters and it's taking a long time to get into CONTENTdm.
There is still more organizing that I need to do to the rest of the folders before they can get online.
I will get back to work on the Wallulahs tomorrow, and try to break up my day so I spend about half of it on the Wallulahs and half of it on the Wilbur letters. The ABBYY process should be all good once I update the circulation desk computer, but that won't happen until the top of the desk is back on.

Weekend Update
Wallulahs:
I scanned and edited way too many Wallulahs for my own sanity this week. So I took a break from that yesterday and today and went back to the Wilbur letters. I'm at 1966 for scanning and 1960 for editing. I still have to Photoshop almost every page to fix the rotation of the page and the moire problems. But the whole process has gone a lot faster than it used to so it's not really a problem.
Did Atiz every send us the new arm that we needed on the scanner because of the screw issue?
Wilbur Collection:
Sara has filled me in on what sort of organizing needs to be done to get the Wilbur letters into CONTENTdm. I started working on that yesterday and today. It's tedious work, but it's another good step for me to check my work and make sure there aren't any mistakes. On Monday we should be able to put at least the first folder of letters online.
I was wondering where I should put the original text .doc, because it sounds like it shouldn't be in the Transcriptions folder where all the .txt pages are now, and right now that is the case.
ABBYY:
We finally got the license and the update today. I installed 4.0 and uninstalled 3.5. Everything seemed fine until I tried to open the Scanning Station, which is where we put the files that are fed to the Verification Station. But the Scanning Station wouldn't open. Instead I placed the files right into the Input folder, which does the same thing, and either method is fine, but I was frustrated that the Scanning Station wasn't opening. I did all the troubleshooting I could think of (checked to make sure all the programs are running and then restarted the computer) but it didn't work. Besides that, I ran through the entire program with the 1906 Wallulah and there were no other problems. I placed the next Wallulah into the input folder and let the Circulation Desk people know that they can try to use the program again. I was thinking though that we might have to update the software on that computer, because it's still running 3.5, but I'm not sure. The saga continues.

Monday
Today I figured out how to convert all my edited jpegs into tiffs. I'm always a little embarrassed when it takes me so long to figure this stuff out, mainly that it takes me so long to google the answer myself.
File>Scripts>Image Processor
Still waiting on ABBYY. apparently the wait has all been due to some signature technicality. Hopefully the fix works!

The Week
Wilbur Collection:
I didn't spend a lot of time on the Wilbur letters this week. The names list and the places list are put together, but the places list is not indexed yet. I still need to make a subject list and index that and I also need to index the type of source list. There are still some documents that have not been transcribed. But I think we can start putting some of it online.
Wallulahs:
I spent more time with the Wallulahs this week. There is still something weird with the software that won't let me convert the jpgs or pdfs to tif files. So right now, everything I've scanned is in jpg and pdf form, and only the jpgs are edited. Once I figure out the software issue, I'm pretty sure I can just insert the edited jpgs into the book editor software to convert to tifs. I also realized that the scanner doesn't always correct for moire in the images. Some Wallulahs didn't need to be fixed, but others needed to have each image filtered/blurred to fix the moire. I still check each image for all the Wallulahs, so the editing isn't really a problem, but it is still necessary. Other than that the Wallulah project is moving quickly. The Wallulahs are at least scanned up to 1959, and edited up to 1949. I can scan a few books a day depending on what other projects or research I'm doing.
ABBYY:
I never heard from Sara about that licensing issue, so no progress there this week.
Food:
I would like to thank whoever brought in those Mickey Mouse shaped coconut and chocolate cookie things. Those were wonderful and I ate a lot of them. Also, Mary brought us cupcakes today and they were amazing and it was so nice and it was the best surprise and thank you so much!

Thoughts on Wilbur Collection
In no particular order:
1. This collection is super old.
2. I'm really glad we have standardized spelling.
3. We have Abraham Lincoln's signature.
4. What Wilbur is doing in Oregon and Washington is racist and horrible.
5. Everyone basically describes Wilbur as a saint but I don't know if I buy it.
6. No one uses Lucretia Wilbur's first name.
7. I wish Wilbur had used more first names.
8. Reading all this makes me depressed for everything we did to the Native Americans.
9. I'm glad Wilbur kept such amazing records.
10. There's a lot more transcribing that needs to happen.
11. Manually indexing all this makes my eyes hurt.
12. I still need to reprint transcriptions on acid-free paper.
13. Are texts like the new telegram?
14. How did Wilbur's daughter die?
15. I wish Wilbur had kept a journal while he was working as Indian Agent.
16. Sarah Winnemucca seems pretty cool.

Abbyy Update
Georgia got through verifying the whole 1906/1907 Wallulah, but said that there may
have been some issues. I guess some pages repeated themselves and she
says it seemed like other pages were missing. But she finished what was
left in the verification station.
I opened up the indexing station and I got the same "internal program error" that we have been getting soooo the problem seems to still be there. We'll see if there are any changes tomorrow.
In other news, I scanned three Wallulahs today! Then I kept working on the Wilbur Collection. I emailed Mary about a book from the Whitman archives that I would like to borrow for a little bit to do more research about Wilbur.

I scanned two Wallulahs on the yet-to-be-named scanner. Both times, the software crashed in the middle of scanning, so I just started a new project each time and picked up on the page where it crashed. I'm not sure at all what is causing the crashes. I'll do more research about how to fix that tomorrow. The scans turned out great though. It took about 30-45 to scan the yearbook, from setting up the cameras to exporting the raw jpgs. I haven't done any more editing on either of them. I'll probably to do that tomorrow.
The second half of the day I worked on the Wilbur letters. The first folder of letters and transcriptions are ready to go up online. Sara and I agreed that as I do more of the detail archiving work I will add that the CONTENTdm and update as it happens.

Almost Done With the Wilbur Letters But Not Really
I am almost done putting the spreadsheets together for the Wilbur Letters.
But I think I need to go back and figure out some of the details I may have missed. I also need to come up with the official list of names and the official list of subjects that will be used. Then I need to figure out if all the transcriptions have been matched. I think at that point then we will need to decide if I will finish the transcriptions or if I should move on to a new project. I'm thinking my last step will be reprinting everything on acid free paper. Or if there is something else I'm not sure what it is.

The Wilbur Update
Sara, Mary, and I decided some things about the Wilbur letters today. So now I am creating the spreadsheets for each of the folders with all the info about the letters. From there we will see if anything else needs to be transcribed. If so, and depending on how much, we might do that at a different time. I'll also print the transcriptions on acid free paper.

The Thursday
Some updates:
There was a problem with one of the arms of the yet-to-be-named scanner. This is what Sara sent the service people at Atiz: When changing arms last week to scan a largish scrapbook, our digitization student was unable to loosen one of the bolts. Upon inspection the grommet had slipped into the shaft and thus when turning the bolt she was turning the holding cup also - nothing to turn against! (I hope that description makes sense.) We ended up having facilities saw the bolt off. It is working fine having the arm attached with 3 rather than 4 bolts, but we are cautious now when changing arms.
So they will be sending us a new arm!
We have also been having some problems with the ABBYY software that we are using to read the Wallulahs and make them key word searchable. I've called customer service and haven't gotten any answers. They emailed me back once, but we're still having problems. I'm waiting for another reply and will update when an answer comes.
I'm still editing the Wilbur letters and matching with transcriptions. I can't tell if everything has been transcribed yet?

The First Week of Summer
I've made a lot of progress on the Wilbur Letters project. All the scanning is done. Now I am going folder by folder, matching the transcriptions and labeling the letters. This part is going faster than I thought it would. I'm hoping this will be done by the end of next week, but we shall see.
I also used the new scanner this week...and it's amazing! I spent awhile getting it set up but after that the scanning went smoothly. Very excited to keep using it.
Have a good weekend!

The Summer
Today was my first day of work here for the summer! Sara and I helped Maureen with the scanners and softwares.
I kept working on the Wilbur letters, and will hopefully get through it all soon so I can move on to new projects!

The Relocation
The creature that is the enormous scanner has been relocated to its new home in the corner of the Cave. I'm really digging the new arrangement of computers and scanners, so hopefully it works out well the new people start working!
We moved the Epson scanner (Gregor? I don't know if I like that name. Why are all our scanners named after guys?!?) and it's back on the new computer so the scanning is going sooooooo much faster. Folder 6 will be finished today, and I'm hoping I'll be done scanning the rest of the folders by the time I leave for a few weeks.
In other, completely unrelated news, all I've had to eat today is coffee and muffins and donuts. (Maybe that's why the scanning is happening so fast today?!?)

The Waiting Game
So I still haven't heard about the scholarship. But, even if I don't get it I am still going to pursue the project. The photos are just too amazing to go unseen by the Willamette/Salem community.
Also, scanning is slow. But, Gregor and I are making progress! I'm thinking next week since I don't have classes after Tuesday I'll spend more hours here and try to get this project finished up before I start the summer work.
Also, the sun is out!

The Editing Day
I edited most of the letters in Folder 3 of the Wilbur collection today. I should have the rest done by tomorrow. After that I might just keep scanning the folders because I want to get that over with.

The Weekend
Sorry for the lack of posts this week!
This week I literally scanned the third folder of Wilbur letters. That's it. There were so many letters it was ridiculous. And since I'm scanning them at 600dpi it just takes a little longer. Plus the computer that the Epson scanner is hooked up to is not as fast as the other computer. But I finished scanning them today and got to start editing!
I think I'm just going to scan all the letters, then edit, then find their match in the Word documents.
Have a good weekend!

The Break
Sara and I have the new scanner all up and running. It's pretty awesome and makes scanning books a million times easier, and I wish that was an exaggeration. I might actually be excited to scan Wallulahs????
Unfortunately, I did not get to any of the Wilbur letters today. I'm going home tonight for Spring Break so I will get back to those next Monday.

The Letters
Right now I'm working on the Wilbur Letters. I've scanned and edited up to the second folder. I'm not sure I love the colors. The Epson scanner makes the letters really light and the book scanner makes the letters really dull. I'm not sure how to fix that yet. So the scans may change as I figure out how to make them look better.
In other news, the much needed spring break is almost here and I don't know if I've ever been more excited for a break before.

The New Project
I started the Wilbur Letters project today. I have the first folder of letters scanned and matched the second one with text in a word document.
I'm going to make a separate word document for each letter and put in in the same folder as the letters.
I also don't love the color that the letters are ending up on the computer. I'll probably mess with that for awhile.

The Beautiful Spring Day
Moving forward with new projects here in the Archives.
I'm working on two, small scanning projects for Mary before beginning the Wilbur letters.
I should finish the small projects by the end of the week, and will start the Wilbur letters on Monday. Just looking at that project, I'm sure it will take at least a couple of weeks. We should also add in some time for me getting distracted by the letters...

The Late Update
Whoops! Seems like it has been awhile since I wrote a blog post. I'd like to blame last week's midterms as well as strep throat, but I don't think I wrote one the week before that either...
Here's the update:
Binder of slides are done.
1952 Wallulah is done.
1965 Wallulah is almost done.
The CDs are all on Drobo.
Other than that, I was going to keep organizing the VMS collection. Are we waiting to put more up online? Or is there a better way we can organize them online?
I'm here if anyone needs me to do something!

The Thursday
I accomplished a lot today. The binder of slides is officially done. I don't actually know who left it for me to scan, so I dropped it off in the archives. There's a list of where all the slides are on Drobo. I added metadata for the McLarty slides and the Spring Break slides, which I forgot to write on the sheet. There might have been more but I forgot. Basically if a slide had something written on it I added it in the metadata.
I finished scanning the 1952 Wallulah and am about halfway through editing it. That should be done tomorrow, assuming I make it to work on time.
After that's done, I'm going to go through the VMS collection and edit and organize and standardize the slides and the information that's in CONTENTdm.
I'm open for any other projects now, too.

The Idea
I can't get this Vernor Martin Sackett Collection out of my head. I want to do something with this, more research, curate a show of the photographs, something, anything.
I was looking up programs at Willamette and stumbled upon the Presidential Scholarship. It might be a reach, but what if I turned this collection into some sort of research project/senior thesis?
Thoughts? The deadline for the application in March 14.

The Update
Today I started with editing some Wallulah slides. I'm not sure when the next time I will get to the Wallulah is because of some other projects that are happening now.
First, the binder of slides. I got distracted today working on the Vernor Martin Sackett Collection, so I did not get to the binder of slide today. But I will focus the rest of my time this week on that. Mostly because I really want to work with the VMS collection again, which brings me to the the second project happening.
The VMS collection. Interesting thing I noticed: in just doing some research aka Googling, I'm pretty sure I found the official record for VMS in some sort of archive, but that has his name as Vernon with an "n" instead of an "r." I'm going to review and edit this collection. I've noticed some typos or maybe some misplaced descriptions/titles that I would really like to fix online. Sara has me set up on CONTENTdm again so I can do that. I think I'll move onto that after I finish the binder of slides.

The Power Outage
A few things Sara and I talked about today:
I'll be working here this summer!
The binder of slides is all scanned. The Glee slides are ready to go. I want to redo some of the McLarty slides. There are some from a Spring Break trip to the University of Washington in 1996 that I think should go in the Willamette Photo Collection.
I started working on the 1952 Wallulah today.
This week I will finish the binder of slides, and then I am open to new projects!

The Snow Days
I felt like my blog posts were getting pretty boring, so I decided to only post every few days. But then I forgot to write them, and now a week or so has gone by. Whoops.
Sean came in today and talked to me about this Wallulah project. Or some sort of digital scrapbook where we could record what's happening at Willamette. I think it's important and I hope it works out.
Other than that, I've just been scanning Wallulahs and the binder of slides. They're not all Glee slides. A lot of it has been art from Jack McLarty. That's been fun to look at.

The Second Getaway
Another long, exhausting week. Another getaway to look forward to. This weekend I'm going to the coast with some other returners-from-abroad. I don't know what it is about this third year at Willamette, but by the time Friday comes all I want to do is get away from campus and Salem. It's not that I hate Willamette or anything like that. I think it's that I've just learned that I really need changes and breaks.
Not much happened in the Cave this week. I had a few small projects to keep me from the monotony of the Wallulah and the binder of slides. All of it is interesting, but like I said, I like changes and breaks.
I really like the conversation going on about bringing back some traditions at Willamette. I don't know what I want to do about it yet, but I have been thinking about it a lot.

The Mystery
The facts: The upper right quadrant of pages 123 and 124 of the 1938 Wallulah are not complete.
What I think happened: Someone cut out that part of the page. I don't know when.
What I did: Went upstairs and got a better version of the 1938 Wallulah and used that to scan.
As of publication of this blog post, the case of the missing part of the page is still unsolved.

The Getaway
I'm busting out of the Willamette Bubble this weekend. In just a few hours, my best friend from grade school and I are spending the weekend at her family's cabin in Black Butte, where we will do nothing but play in the snow and read books that aren't for school and eat cookies and watch bad movies. It will be glorious. Sometimes, even two weeks into a new semester, you need to get away.
Before that happens though, there is another full day, beginning with the archives. I started the morning by finishing up the slides I left scanning yesterday. Then I rescanned some Packwood memos for Mary. And then I scanned some articles in some old, old Collegians. Like pre-WWII old. Which I thought was pretty cool. And that was about it.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! See you on Monday.

The Coffee Morning
I feel very accomplished today, which obviously has nothing to do with the absurd amount of coffee I've ingested since 8am.
The Glee slides are chugging along and the 1938 Wallulah scanning has begun.
I have to leave a little early. I'm thinking I'll make up for some lost time by coming in on Friday.

The Quiet Monday Morning
It was great to see Sara again! I guess now it's actually official to be back in the archives.
I checked the 1934 Wallulah and everything looks good so that should be good to go.
Not much else to report. Still working on the Glee slides. And at this rate, it feels as though I will be working on the Glee slides until the end of time.

The Love Story
This morning I was treated with one of the most wonderful love stories I've heard, seen, or read. Rosemarie came down to The Cave and told me the story of her and Gerry. I'm sure most of you, dear readers, have heard it, too. The only word I can think of to summarize the story is wonderful. I am so happy that she shared it with me. It will be on my mind for quite some time, I'm sure.
In other less wonderful news, I'm still working on the Glee slides. Right now the 1994 slides are being scanned and edited. My favorite picture I found was of a group of students in front of The Ram, with an old logo on the awning. It made me think of Cheers, and how badly I wish I were 21 so I could hang out with the rest of my friends who have already reached the golden age and can spend their Thursday nights at the Ram's pint night. Only six more months to go.
For now, I will be spending my Thursday night reading articles and books for my classes because my apartment still does not have internet, which is also the reason I am leaving early today, to try to figure the situation out. I'll be in tomorrow sometime after 10:30am or 11am to catch up on the hours.
Such is real life.
I'll also be spending a lot of time thinking about Rosemarie's story, because it is truly amazing that real life can work out in such a wonderful, beautiful way sometimes.

The Lost Traditions
I had no idea that so many people read the blog posts. I'll try to keep them as interesting as possible, although I feel like most of the time I say the same thing.
I'll probably be writing this for awhile:
Worked on the Glee slides today. Still more to do tomorrow.
At least there is that tradition to look forward to with each blog post for the next week or so, unlike the tradition of Glee. Does anyone know what happened to that? It looks like a lot of fun, and I'm wondering why we don't have Glee anymore.
It makes me worry about other traditions that I look forward to every year will die out at Willamette. And what other traditions have I missed out on?

The Revelation
It's the first day of the semester and I am very happy to be back in classes and Willamette after spending a semester abroad. It's been, and will continue to be, a strange transition back. Spending my mornings in the archives though does make it a little easier. As monotonous as scanning the same yearbook all day can be, the repetition is calming. When I think of my time at Willamette now, my job in the archives is an inevitable part of it. Working here has put me back in the mindset of being a Willamette student.
Moving on from the thoughts that were occupying my mind this morning.
I finished scanning and editing the 1934 Wallulah. I think I'll recheck everything in a week or so. My mind needs a break from it.
I moved to scanning the Glee slides, which made me a little lost. I had to reread everything about scanning slides and then when I finally felt ready to scan the slides, there was a problem with the Epson scanner on the other computer. But that is fixed and now the slides are being scanned and I forgot how slow the Epson scanner is.

The Frustration
It began this morning when I checked the blog and found that my last post was never actually posted.
I wrote a pretty long blog post about my work yesterday, my feelings about coming back to Willamette, and how much I value my time in the archives. More than a job, working in the archives brings me some tranquility in the mornings. I appreciate it a lot, and seeing my blog post gone made me really upset.
It continued with Epson scanning the Glee slides at a glacial pace.
With the way the Epson scanner is working (and I can't remember if it was always that slow, or if the Feynman is just exponentially faster, or if it's the computer is the problem), the Glee slides will take awhile to get through. I'm thinking at least a week, maybe two.
It peaked at my complete inability to figure out some edits for the Glee slides on Photoshop.
Some of the slides have rounded corners, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to keep the rounded corners in my edits. A significant amount of my time today was spent trying to fix this problem. I've started doing what I can on the slides and then when I do more reading and research I'll go back and fix the rest of it.
That is the frustration that is today. It's also Tuesday, which means the week can only get better?

The First Week
It was a quiet Friday morning here in the archives. Not much to report.
I finished scanning the 1934 Wallulah today, and will edit the final pages on Monday (which is also my first day back in classes!).
After that I will start working on the Glee slides and any other projects that come my way.
Have a good weekend!

The Common Cold
I spent the first part of my day rescanning some pages in the Wallulah. The 1934 doesn't completely fit on Feynman so for some pages part of it is cut off. I finally found a way to fix that problem. I have a few more pages to rescan and edit before continuing with the book. I definitely will have it done by next week.
I also helped Mary with a scanning project. The pages have a watermark though, and I'm having trouble getting it to look OK. For now, I left Mary with some options to look at and can tell me which ones she likes the best. I might have to rescan all of the pages, but that's really not a problem.

The Swing of Things
I kept scanning and editing the 1934 Wallulah today and will most likely finish by the end of the week. Feynman is seriously amazing and speeds up the process immensely, but the computer it is connected to is not as fast as the computer that the Epson scanner is connected to. Bill and I talked about switching the scanners once Sara gets back. I think it makes the most sense to put Feynman with the faster computer and use that for the majority of the scanning I'll be doing.
I've been spending time getting to know Photoshop CS3 Extended better. Since I started in the archives, there have always been some things I wanted to fix in the editing process but never knew how. I'm taking some time to learn those fixes now, and hopefully the edits will keep looking better and more like the originals.

The Return
I am officially back as the digitization assistant for the archives and I'm really happy to be here. It took a little bit to get back in the swing of things, but I'm getting the hang of it all again.
Yesterday, I spent some time reading the blog posts from Sean and Katie who were here in the summer and fall semester. I really like the new scanner (Feynman?). It's made the Wallulah scanning project so much faster.
So for now, I'll be working with the Wallulahs and getting a good chunk of those done. As always, I'm here for any odd projects and jobs.
